32 Days. It has been only 32 days since the waters roared down the canyons and into our lives. It feels like a lifetime ago. When I look back at our lives and our community 32 days ago, it is overwhelming to think about the life-shifting events we’ve all had to endure. We all have our individual stories yet they blend together in a complex web of experiences. We’ve gone through something as a community. Mother Nature did her best to tear down everything we built, yet she couldn’t tear apart the fabric of who we are. The Flood It was about 6:00 AM on September 12th when the power went out. My husband was called into work in Boulder and my 8 year old son and I were alone in Pinewood Springs. I had been up all night obsessively watching the news on...

The National Guard is giving priority access to Waste Management and One Way Disposal. Getting old trash out of the neighborhood is an important step to help alleviate any problems with bears. This does not mean the community is ready for everyone to return home. Aside from the broken highways, the water system is not back online and phones are still out. Waste Management will resume its normal route every Wednesday and One Way will resume their service every Monday. They will be in the community in the morning. Obviously, they can only serve the homes that are accessible to them. Additionally, Waste Management will be delivering a 30 yard roll-off dumpster for community use to help remove debris. The location of this dumpster will be updated after it’s...

Dear Neighbors, As the Board of the Pinewood Springs Fire Protection District, we are very thankful for our volunteer firefighters as first responders. We emphasize they are volunteers who spent long hours without much sleep to manage the scale of this disaster. The Board has seen first hand their dedication and all the hours of training they go through to prepare for such emergencies. So we appreciate hearing your expressions of thankfulness for their caring leadership. Though they don’t desire recognition, as a board we do want to sponsor a gathering of appreciation and remembrance in the future. Of course there are many others who have helped and those that continue to work on restoring our infrastructure. So we hope for a gathering that will...

It gives me great pleasure to update you all with news from Donn Fairbank….. -Laura “October 12, 2013 The road board got excellent news yesterday from the county bridge engineer. Contracts have been let for temporary roads across the Little Thompson River at Kiowa and Cree Ct. The crossings will be gravel roads with culverts for the river flow. Bladeworks has been awarded the contracts and expects to have work started soon. Bladeworks, who sees these repairs as priority projects has done work for us before. We will update this report as information becomes available.” Donn Fairbank Chair, Pinewood Springs Road Board

October, 2013 Water District The Water District has been inspected by FEMA and the Colorado Department of Health. We have also completed the necessary forms to apply for financial assistance from FEMA to repair our damaged water system. Pinewood had 4 waterlines that crossed the Little Thompson. Needless to say, the raging river destroyed all 4 lines. There are 3 areas that have no water; everyone living past the Crescent Lake Bridge to the end of Kiowa, the area across the bridge on Seneca, Iroquois Makah, Seminole, Cody CT. and Chieftain CT; and the Cree CT area. Because of the government shut down, Carl has not yet received the permits required to work on these lines. And yes, the water in the tanks has been treated and is potable water. We are not sure when...
