Pinewood Springs – Newsletter April, 2014

Water District

As many of you know, the flood severely damaged the home located by the Bridge on Kiowa. The floodwaters also completely destroyed the homeowner’s water tap and water line. After several months of reconstruction the homeowner is ready to move back, however, the District still needs to reinstall his tap and water line. To do so, we will have to close down Kiowa for a few hours. Carl is planning to do the install sometime in April. We want all the Kiowa islanders to be aware that this will happen. When we know more about when the construction will begin, we will try to give you a 24-hour warning when the road will be closed. The by pass route used during the flood via Ute Crossing Court would be available in case of an emergency. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email Gabi.

The next Water Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April 23rd, at the Firehouse, 7:00 pm, enter through the back door. To be included on the agenda for the next Water Board meeting on the 4TH Wednesday call Gabi at 823-5345 or email at pswdadmin@att.net

Fire District

Warm temperatures, high winds and low humidity have resulted in several High Fire Danger Watches over the last few weeks. Now is a good time to start fire mitigation projects around your home. For tips on what to do, please check out the website firewise.org.

Also of much concern is the predicted heavy spring runoff. Folks living along the river should be prepared as well as anyone having to cross a bridge to get to their home. The temporary culverts and river crossings could be washed out once again. If your home backs up to the mountainside, beware of heavy rains. With the ground still saturated, the water could once again pour of the incline and damage yards, foundations and driveways.

Next Fire Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th, 7:00 pm at the Firehouse.

New Fire Station and Community Center Project

Good neighbors, because of your support, the Fire Station and Community Center fund is now $111,174.79.  We thank you for your donations and urge others to join us for this critical need in our community. There will be special events planned this year to help us reach our goal of $400,000.00   Watch for further information on the project coming soon.

Road Board

As reported last month, the Road Board expects to be very limited on what we can afford to do to maintain our roads this year. To minimize damage to our roads, please respect the community wide speed limit of 25 MPH. Higher speeds cause much more damage to our roads and generates more airborne dust. Many of the emergency repairs we made during the flood could only be made with what we could find locally. These salvaged materials were not high quality road materials but made the roads usable. We are working closely with the county to do what we can to make more permanent repairs. Remember, 25 MPH.

As always, please report any road problems or requests to the Road Board message service, 303-895-3848. Board meetings are normally held the 1st Tuesday of the odd numbered months of the year at 7:00 PM in the Firehouse. No meeting in April. May’s meeting tentatively scheduled for May 6th. Please enter through the back door.

Property Owners Association

The next step in the Crescent Lake restoration project is to have a survey done to determine the exact boundaries of the Crescent Lake property. Also a factor in reconstruction is the possibility of a major spring runoff. It was suggested that any construction wait until after the runoff season. The PSPOA is also investigating the water rights for Crescent Lake. Many years ago there was a sign posted at Crescent Lake on which the number 6978 was displayed. Does anyone have any idea as to what that number means? We have investigated well permits and lake permits with no success.

May 3rd – The Larimer County Community Development Division

Planning Department is coming to Pinewood

The Larimer County Community Development Division Rural Land Team will be conducting approximately 12 community meetings, around the County, to find out what the citizens/business owners in rural Larimer County would like their respective region of Larimer County to be like in the future.

What do you, as citizens want easy access to with regards to conveniences, such as: groceries, gas stations, banking, repair service, etc?  As farmers and ranchers, what types of support service/businesses would you like to see located closer to your operations or have the ability to actually co-locate with your operation, on or near your location?

Additionally, what do you like or dislike about the services provided by the County? Bottom–line, what’s your rural area vision and what needs to be improved or changed?

Next PSPOA meeting is April 23rd, 7:00PM, at the Fire Station. Enter through back door.
