What is the current status of US 36 between Lyons and Estes Park? Following the temporary repairs made by the National Guard to temporarily reopen US 36, the roadway was still at risk of losing existing embankment and roadway. US 36 was identified as the first mountain corridor to begin and complete permanent repairs following the September 2013 floods. Vendor and Utility Company Access to Pinewood Springs

  There has been a coordinated effort between CDOT, the National Guard and essential utility companies to provide some services to Pinewood during the road rebuilding of highway 36. Last week, we were able to get Waste Management and One Way Disposal permission to enter the area and remove trash from the neighborhood. Propane companies were also allowed in to refuel tanks before winter weather makes this more challenging. The Guard and CDOT have indicated they view these vendors as essential to the community and will continue to try and give them access. Clarification: Access to Pinewood Springs During Road Construction

Like several of you, I’ve been on the phone with Hickenlooper’s office and CDOT today… there is a lot of confusion about access to Pinewood. As of this writing both offices agree that if you have a driver’s license with a Pinewood address – the national guard check point should let you drive down from Estes to the break in the road at Big Elk. The National Guard does not want people parking in the way of heavy equipment on the highway but on side roads like what is left of the entrance to CR-47/Big Elk. I’m still waiting to hear from the CDOT construction manager for more details but for now… we can access our homes during the 36 construction process.
