Repairs to Pinewood Water System (Update)

From Gabi Benson…. “Hi Laura, Carl has been working to restore the Treatment Plant and distribution lines.  He has the plant  functioning, but the water in the river and the reservoir is full of debris and the color of hot chocolate. Even after treatment, it has a yellow color and a slight odor. He is working to repair the reservoir’s aeration system damaged by the flood. This might help the turbidity. At the current usage rate, we only have 2 weeks or so of water remaining in the tanks. If he can start making water again, the tanks will start to fill, but we need to encourage the residents still in Pinewood to conserve water and only use the bare minimum. The lines to the areas beyond Seneca, Cree Court and Kiowa Island are a bigger problem. We...

Access to Pinewood Springs Via Highway 36

Access to Pinewood Springs Via Highway 36

There have been a lot of questions, rumors and confusion about the ability to access Pinewood via vehicles on highway 36. It’s understandable as there are several agencies involved and the communication flow is slow. Resources are stretched with so much destruction. That said, I’m working with the right people with authority so we can get answers to our questions. Included in this effort was a 20-minute phone call with Ashley Mohr, the official CDOT spokeswoman. She wanted you all to know that they are having a meeting tomorrow morning (Tuesday, October 7) to discuss Pinewood and will have more answers after that meeting. They have been focused in so many directions (including the reopening of highway 119) but highway 36 is a big priority. There will...

Operation Thank You National Guard and CDOT

Operation Thank You National Guard and CDOT

When I read the news that the Utah Guard was on their way to Colorado, I felt an overwhelming sense of hope and gratitude. Hopefully you did too. So maybe it’s time to show our gratitude to the ones doing the very hard work to return us all home! The Colorado National Guard has enlisted the Utah National Guard to help rebuild highway 36. CDOT and our Colorado guard are stretched so thin and have been working non-stop since the floods over three weeks ago. To say “Thanks!” we are working on a few things and could use your help! 1) Working the road blocks and check points is grueling. I spoke with a guardsman earlier today who said anything we can do for these guys would be appreciated more than we realize. He suggested delivering cookies or any...

National Guard Engineers Heading to Colorado to Rebuild Highway 36

National Guard Engineers Heading to Colorado to Rebuild Highway 36

DENVER (AP) — Utah National Guard soldiers are coming to Colorado to help rebuild one of the highways leading to Rocky Mountain National Park. About 120 soldiers are scheduled to leave Friday morning. They’re expected to start work Saturday rebuilding U.S. Highway 36 from Lyons to Estes Park, which was badly damaged in last month’s floods. Colorado is paying the soldiers with state funds because of the federal shutdown. However, the state will eventually seek reimbursement for much of the $500,000 cost. The soldiers are members of an engineer battalion which has built roads in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as after Hurricane Katrina. (Photo Credit: AP/Brennan Linsley)

Update from the Pinewood Road Board

Update from the Pinewood Road Board

By Donn Fairbank The PWS Road Board will be making posts to the MyPinewoodHome regarding the Pinewood Springs roads as information becomes available from our own road crew and from the Larimer County Engineering Department.Since the flood our PWS road crew was initially focused on minimizing damage to the roads aided by some great volunteers opening blocked culverts and redirecting water to minimize damage. We have also assisted Carl and the water department to help with damage control early on. Our focus then changed more to patching the damage that had been done and making the roads as passable and safe as we could under the circumstances. We have been using less than ideal materials for some of that work, but they were materials that we could salvage from...
