IMPORTANT UPDATE: Access to Pinewood Springs via Highway 36 Prohibited

Lyons, Colorado – Gov. John Hickenlooper announced this afternoon that the State of Colorado has contracted with a Colo. National Guard engineering company to rebuild U.S. 36 between Lyons and Estes Park. Work on the highway has begun from both directions – from the Town of Lyons and the Town of Estes Park – with similar equipment and crews working towards each other. In an effort to expedite construction, all traffic on U.S. 36 west of Lyons is prohibited, effectively immediately. Beginning Monday, all access to Apple Valley Rd will be severely restricted between the hours of 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. The closure applies to vehicular, cycling, and pedestrian traffic.  Lyons, Colorado – (via Lyons Recorder) The Town of Lyons has developed procedures for allowing Lyons residents, businesses, and contractors in and out of town limits. Beginning Monday, Sept. 23, a traffic checkpoint will be operational 24/7. Minimizing non-essential traffic will help accelerate the county’s/town’s recovery and repair efforts. Pinewood Springs Area Schools Reopen Soon

Schools in the Pinewood Springs area both in Estes Park and Lyons have been closed since the flood. It’s taken an amazing amount of strategic planning and organization by the school districts and community leaders but they now have a plan to reopen the schools next week. Estes Park Schools are reopening Monday, September 23 at normal times. Specific details will be sent out in a district email to students and staff and School Messenger call. Waste water and sewer have been restored. Transportation routes will be modified and limited in some areas. Students and staff who can safely and feasibly report to school are asked to do so. Update: FEMA and Xcel Status of Lyons Repairs

BOULDER – Xcel Energy Inc. on Wednesday released an update on damage and repair operations going on in Boulder County in relation to the flooding that has ravaged the area in the past week, while the Federal Emergency Management Agency has also provided some updated figures on damage. Xcel said a valve is being installed in the natural gas pipeline south of the fire station in Lyons to cut service to flooded areas. Gas valves in parts of Lyons that were not flooded are being turned off in preparation for gas to be put into the system as early as this week.
