Schools in the Pinewood Springs area both in Estes Park and Lyons have been closed since the flood. It’s taken an amazing amount of strategic planning and organization by the school districts and community leaders but they now have a plan to reopen the schools next week.

Estes Park Schools are reopening Monday, September 23 at normal times. Specific details will be sent out in a district email to students and staff and School Messenger call. Waste water and sewer have been restored. Transportation routes will be modified and limited in some areas. Students and staff who can safely and feasibly report to school are asked to do so. Please stay home if you cannot safely get to school. If your children attend school in Estes Park and they have not heard about your whereabouts during this crisis, please contact your child(ren)’s school ASAP so we know you are safe and well.

Lyons Schools will reopen next week. With the exception of Lyons Elementary and Lyons Middle/Senior High, all SVVSD schools are scheduled to reopen this Thursday, September 19th and follow their normal schedule. Our Lyons K-12 students are scheduled to begin a staggered return to school beginning Monday, September 23rd  (high school), Tuesday, September 24th (middle school) and Wednesday, September 25th  (elementary) at the Main Street School, 820 Main Street in Longmont.

Once students are back, Lyons school principals, teachers and staff will be working hard to identify students who have not returned to school. Having accurate attendance will be enormously helpful to law enforcement professionals and other emergency responders who are working hard to account for everyone throughout our communities.

Additionally, because several roads and access points to schools may be obstructed, damaged and in some cases impassable, the Transportation Department is making necessary adjustments to some bus routes to assist students in arriving to school in a timely manner.

Since Pinewood Springs is cut off in both directions by sections of Hwy 36 in the river and gone, how will PWS kids get to Estes for school?
