Highway 36 Construction Update – Summer 2014

Highway 36 Construction Update – Summer 2014

What is the current status of US 36 between Lyons and Estes Park? Following the temporary repairs made by the National Guard to temporarily reopen US 36, the roadway was still at risk of losing existing embankment and roadway. US 36 was identified as the first mountain corridor to begin and complete permanent repairs following the September 2013 floods. As a critical route between Estes Park and the Front Range for residents and tourists, this corridor’s repairs were targeted for several reasons: The alignment along US 36 provides the opportunity to keep the roadway away from the river more frequently than other mountain highways. A partnership between the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Central Federal Lands (CFL) combined expertise to work on...

CDOT Traffic Alert – US 36 During the Holidays

ONE LANE OF US 36 CLOSED BETWEEN ESTES PARK AND PINEWOOD SPRINGS NOW THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS Effective immediately and lasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week through at least Friday, January 3, CDOT has closed the western lane of US 36 near mile marker 10 north of Pinewood Springs and south of Estes Park. The temporary roadway is in significant need of repairs at the location, where the hillside beneath the highway has degraded and the roadway is no longer stable. In the interest of motorist safety, the lane will be closed until emergency repairs can be made after the New Year holiday. Motorists should be prepared for a single lane of alternating traffic 24/7 via traffic signal or flaggers with delays of up to 15 minutes expected. Drivers are encouraged to build...

Paving to Cause Delays on US 36 Outside of Pinewood Springs

Paving to Cause Delays on US 36 Outside of Pinewood Springs

On Tuesday, October 21, the project team will pave the upper portion of US 36 between MM 10.8 and MM 12.5 starting at 7:30 a.m. and lasting to 4 p.m. The paving operation may cause a delay in the pilot car escort of 10 – 30 minutes. Please be patient if you are delayed slightly, as the paving will allow crews to create an asphalt roadway surface on the highway. The pilot car escorts are for the use of local Pinewood Springs area residents and essential vehicles. Local residents are defined as home, property or business owners within the construction zone of US 36, between mile markers 4 and 19. If you have questions or concerns, please send an email to us36floodrepairs@publicinfoteam.com or leave a message on the project hotline at (970)...

Access to Pinewood Springs Via Highway 36

Access to Pinewood Springs Via Highway 36

There have been a lot of questions, rumors and confusion about the ability to access Pinewood via vehicles on highway 36. It’s understandable as there are several agencies involved and the communication flow is slow. Resources are stretched with so much destruction. That said, I’m working with the right people with authority so we can get answers to our questions. Included in this effort was a 20-minute phone call with Ashley Mohr, the official CDOT spokeswoman. She wanted you all to know that they are having a meeting tomorrow morning (Tuesday, October 7) to discuss Pinewood and will have more answers after that meeting. They have been focused in so many directions (including the reopening of highway 119) but highway 36 is a big priority. There will...

Operation Thank You National Guard and CDOT

Operation Thank You National Guard and CDOT

When I read the news that the Utah Guard was on their way to Colorado, I felt an overwhelming sense of hope and gratitude. Hopefully you did too. So maybe it’s time to show our gratitude to the ones doing the very hard work to return us all home! The Colorado National Guard has enlisted the Utah National Guard to help rebuild highway 36. CDOT and our Colorado guard are stretched so thin and have been working non-stop since the floods over three weeks ago. To say “Thanks!” we are working on a few things and could use your help! 1) Working the road blocks and check points is grueling. I spoke with a guardsman earlier today who said anything we can do for these guys would be appreciated more than we realize. He suggested delivering cookies or any...
