Town of Lyons Access Pass for Pinewood Residents

accesspass

Residents of Pinewood Springs and Spring Gulch can obtain temporary access passes to travel through the town of Lyons. Passes will be available at Lifebridge Church, Hwy 66, Longmont, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can come pick your pass any day, not just the day you are going in on. On the day you go, vehicle access for businesses is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For Lyons in-town residents, it is noon-2 p.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. You can stay from noon to 7:30 p.m if necessary. It is our understanding that Pinewood residents may go through town once per day.

The entrance and exit times are so that the town can coordinate access with other entities such as the school district and contractors so cars overload the checkpoint.

There appears to be a good bit of mis-communication on this subject. We live in Pinewood springs and went down to the Life Bridge Church and obtained a pass, intending to go in with a relative and bring out another 4×4 vehicle. The rep processed us and gave us the ” Restricted Access Pass”. we went thru the Lyons checkpoint without mishap, the National Guard rep said we were on the correct route. Then down Apple Valley Rd where the National Guard Sergeant told us we were on the correct route. He gave us a map to point the way. We followed the map to the point where we found two Larimer County Sheriffs, Schneider and Noble who told us that the road was one-way out only. We had to turn back. In addition the people who issued the pass indicated that the pass would be good for the foreseeable future, the Sheriffs indicated that tomorrow, Sunday, 9-22 would be the LAST time anyone would be permitted to use the road.
Suggest this issue be investigated, and proper, authoritive information be posted on this website. Thanks – jwrit

Hi John, The pass is to access Lyons with the main intent being for in-town residents so they can visit their homes. The road was put in as a one-way evacuation route from Pinewood through Spring Gulch exiting from Lyons. It goes through private property and we had access this weekend only (as of this writing.) After the fire fighters exit Pinewood tomorrow this road will be closed. This weekend people took their cars out over this road. To access Pinewood you can drive up Sunshine Canyon to Gold Hill then take highway 7 to Estes. When leaving Estes on 36 to head to Pinewood you will be stopped by a National guard roadblock. They will either look at the pass you received at the LifeBridge church or your driver’s license showing a Pinewood address. Then you park just past Big Elk Meadows where the highway is washed out. You can park on the highway and walk into Pinewood from there using a trail that was cut in by resident volunteers. This is how some people accessed their cars for the caravan this weekend. The 4-wheel road was never established to enter Pinewood – only to exit via one of the organized caravans this weekend. This is Laura Levy and I was engaged by the PW fire dept to help curate information via this website and the Facebook page. I used the route myself this morning and know first hand that the info above is accurate. I hope this helps!

It is also possible to hike up from the Apple Valley bridge for now. A bit longer, but feasible
